Many vinyl record sleeves tell a story. A great deal of time was spent in making certain that the sleeves did more than just market the records. Bands and groups wanted their covers to portray a message and tell a story. The selling point was not only how colorful and brilliant the records were but the image that caught the buyer’s eye. You were more likely to pick up an album that had an interesting sleeve than today. Today, many people preview the music in the stores and on the Internet before purchasing. Previews weren’t always possible and the vinyl record sleeves were a major attraction to impulse buyers and people not familiar with the group on the record.
