A paralegal can draft documents such as contracts or court-related documents. They ca help the attorney prepare for trial by doing research, interviewing witnesses, or verifying the facts of the case.

In some states, however, these duties have been significantly broadened. Some states allow paralegals to represent indigent people in state court like a malpractice lawyer. Administrative (non-criminal) courts in some states allow paralegals to represent clients with Social Security disability claims or Worker’s Compensation cases.

It’s no wonder, then, that paralegals are now considering malpractice insurance.
