Not all packages can be handled in the same way. For example, you might be able to handle such items as clothes somewhat roughly but you cannot treat items like say for instance, electronics, in the same manner. Shipping labels will tell package handlers how packages should be handled and inform them of the identities of the sender and intended recipient as well. There are special labels that inform handlers which side is up or which packages have flammable contents. Shipping labels may also be invoices or signs that confirm that packages have reached a certain location.
