Locating affordable health care for Americans is not as easy as it used to be. Workers are being hit hard by employers anxious to save money on their premiums by reducing cover or passing on the rises in cost. Preventive measures like having faucet water filter in the home could be one way of lessening the occurrence of diseases and in turn will lower our health care cost. It wasn't that long ago that I had a fantastic health plan but all that has changed. Last fall, out of the blue, we were informed that our health care provider was going to be switched to a cheaper alternative.The company was seeking a more cost effective plan that would benefit all of its employees. Some people will argue of course, that my new insurance is still fantastic and I am fortunate to have it. I don't mind other workers benefiting but it costs me more now, almost twice as much more to have my family covered in the plan. Other than a few exceptions, everyone else seems to benefit from this new arrangement but because I haven't had a raise but I am taking a great deal less home so my family can have health cover. To be honest, I got on well with the old provider but can't see that happening here even if the health care plan is half decent. In my opinion, the company's search for affordable health care not only left all of us with a significant cut in our paychecks, but higher co-pays and more out-of-pockets expenses from us. My last policy took care of all the hospital stay when I had my little boy nearly 3 years ago. Working out that same stay with the new plan would mean approximately 4,000 dollars would have to be paid by me.You also have to bear in mind that this additional expense is just the hospital bill and doesn't include the additional work fees I must now pay. There is obviously a market for these schemes because more and more affordable health care options are becoming available. Those less fortunate can now get free health care more readily and workers without health care are able to join special schemes. The problem is when a small number of people take advantage of a system that was designed for those that needed it most.Those less well off are in need of these affordable health care schemes but they are also used by those who are intent on living of the state and do not actually contribute to society. Taxpayers, such as me, are contributing to the vast number of programs currently available. By switching providers, it was my company that realized the true advantages of this low cost option and a number of employees. All too often this happens where the only one that really benefits is the company, who seem quite happy that many of their employees will take home less. Something needs to be done in this country to offset rising costs and provide more affordable health care to those who are in need.
