While a student is taking Phd courses, the writing of their thesis involves getting a lot of information that needs to be included in their paper and most of time this information is from other people’s writings. It is very important that when a student is writing a paper and takes information from someone else, they need to make sure that they give that particular source the credit for the information. Plagiarism is when someone takes information from another source and copies it to make it their own. There are laws that protect the original writer from this and they are definitely applied to the people who cheat.
